Four-year-old dies as a man and woman ‘well-known’ to the child are charged in Smithton, Tasmania

A man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a four-year-old child.
The child died at 10.15pm on May 31 in Smithton, north-west Tasmania.
A 35-year-old man, who was ‘well known’ to the child, was arrested and charged overnight.
“He has been remanded in custody to appear at the Burnie Magistrates Court after hours on Sunday morning,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.
A 30-year-old woman, who was also known to the child, was charged with assaulting a child.

She was released on bail and will appear in court at a later date.
