Four In A Bed owners left red-faced as guests call out ‘stained and torn’ bed sheets – but it seriously backfires

A Four In A Bed couple were left blushing when a guest told them their sheets were ‘full of stains and tears’.

The Channel 4 reality show sees four bed and breakfast owners compete to prove that their bed and breakfasts are value for money by visiting each other’s bed and breakfasts and deciding how much they think their stay is worth.

This week saw the 2011 series re-air, with couple Gill and Peter taking a close look at their fellow contestants’ feedback forms, but they were less than impressed when one of the pair gave them a meagre 5 points for cleanliness.

Disgruntled B&B owner Peter called the comment ‘extremely low’ and confronted guest Melvyn with his criticism of the bedding in his accommodation, complaining about wrinkled sheets with a small hole and an unpleasant stain.

Melvin justified his assessment by telling Peter, “I think your staff should have gone through it much more thoroughly.”

Peter accepted the owner’s answer and admitted his ‘mistake’. He said: ‘That’s our mistake and we take full responsibility for it.’ Melvyn then compared his establishment to the motorway service areas, which lacked the ‘wow factor’.

However, Melvyn’s harsh criticism soon turned against him when he himself was condemned when another guest criticised him for his harsh comments towards Gill and Peter.

In another VT, another guest complained: ‘Melvyn was really bothering him, like he was looking for things to criticise.’

Meanwhile, it wasn’t just Melvyn who criticized the B&B, as couple Deborah and Wayne also voiced their displeasure about the breakfast service, reports The Mirror.

The duo were unhappy with the slow service and had to wait an hour for a drink, Deborah even wondered if it was the first time they had served breakfast.

Gill admitted he was wrong, then explained: ‘We don’t normally serve breakfast. Breakfast is usually served by the staff and we are there to talk to the customers, so we were out of our comfort zone.’

When it came time to pay the bill, it turned out that one guest paid the exact amount, while another was £30 short.

Unsurprisingly, Melvyn and his partner Sindy paid just £40, half the required £80, with Melvyn revealing: ‘I wish it had been better because we wanted to pay you more but it was a combination of things. It just really disappointed us.’

It comes after the owner of A Four In A Bed launched a scathing attack on their rival’s business, saying ‘standards were so poor it should be closed down’ amid a heated row over ‘the game’.

In Sunday’s replay, Malaya, owner of Blackpool Bed & Breakfast, was harshly attacked by a fellow contestant.

In the episode, two owners and two co-owners meet to discuss the value of their stay at Malaya’s B&B and give him feedback.

Malaya, however, took offense to the ‘harsh’ feedback and specifically targeted Phil and Maria, questioning why they had given him the extremely low score of three.

Phil responded quickly, “The taps on the sink, turn on the tap, the tap follows you.”

Malaya sarcastically apologized to Phil for not being a five-star B&B. This irritated Phil, who replied, “What do you think about the taps going round and the shower overflowing? Is that normal? Is that what you get at B&Bs these days?”

Malaya argued that these issues had been addressed, but Phil said they still pointed to poor maintenance standards. He said: ‘I think it needs more than just improvement. It needs to be closed down.’

In Malaya’s defense, fellow B&B owner Pete told Phil, “That’s not right. To say it should be closed is going way too far.”

Undeterred, Phil went so far as to pay Malaya £25 less, again stating that the room was not up to standard.

Malaya finished the episode in last place, with Pete taking a joint victory with fourth and final owner Alex.
