- They used their SUV as cover against an armed hostage taker
- Neither the domestic violence suspect nor the driver have been named
Four Dallasites have been hospitalized after a pickup truck driver crashed into them as they responded to a shooting at the home Thursday morning.
Officers were called early this morning to a report of a shooting involving a woman, her boyfriend and her ex-boyfriend.
While waiting outside the building, an unknown driver in another vehicle crashed into police cars after driving down a side street into the barricade.
The officers were hit by a pickup truck while trying to negotiate with an armed hostage taker
A man and a woman were in the pickup and police say the driver, who has not yet been identified, remained at the scene, but they would not confirm whether he has been arrested.
They say he was “not involved” in the domestic incident, but it is unclear what exactly led to the crash and a blood test for intoxicants came back negative.
In the chaos, one of the men involved in the original disturbances attempted to flee by jumping out of a window before eventually being arrested himself.
One officer was unable to walk and all four were taken to the city’s Parkland Hospital, where one was treated for minor injuries, one for a suspected broken foot, while the other two were evaluated.
One of the victims was also taken to hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.
Two women and two children were in the home as officers tried to escape
The driver of the pickup was tested for alcohol, but the result was negative
