The once opalescent sites of Grand Glacier and Lavish Lair are not what they used to be Fortnite.
Players can still visit these locations on the current Chapter 5 Season 2 map, but they won’t have the character they used to have. The new update has taken away their boss fights and the vaults full of loot. Sure, you can still walk the hallowed halls of each place, but everything feels a lot emptier. Now, fans have been posting melodramatic (and somewhat funny) clips on TikTok talking about what they miss about the old version as they visit now lonely locations.
Epic Games has released Chapter 5 Season 2 Fortnite on the 8th of March. A new season means flashy new locations like the hazy, underworld-inspired lands of Grim Gate and the heavenly Mount Olympus. Overall, these new Greek-inspired locations have been hotbeds of contention for players, but that has left other places in the dust. Those who take the time to make the trek to ancient lands will find them surprisingly empty. Now players can no longer fight the old bosses and the annoying NPCs and loot-filled vaults have been cleared out.
This has inspired some to comment on the strange emptiness that accompanies the abandoned digital spaces. A person wrote on TikTok, “Either I’m extremely emotional, or something about the fact that these bosses are gone and the vaults are empty is extremely empty,” in a video showing a quiet library room in a mansion. While some commented on the general vacancy of some buildings, others missed certain characters. In the comments, fans lamented the loss of Montague, Grand Glacier’s previous boss. The top comment, which viewers liked more than 27,700 times, read: “I was devastated when I found out Montague is dead.”
The videos are so overly dramatic that they cross the line a bit. It’s been less than a week since Epic Games released the new season, so any fears may be a bit exaggerated. In this video, one person shares a video of an empty room with a sad Frank Ocean song playing in the background.
Fans also shared videos to remember the locations that the developers removed in the new patch, such as Hazy Hillside.
Not everyone misses the old locations. People are already having fun with the new weapons and exploring the new locations. It may be a little funny, or a little sad, but change is the only real constant Fortnite. I think the Greek philosopher Heraclitus said it best when he spoke about how everything changes, “You can’t step in the same river twice.” I suspect that is not what the ancient thinker was referring to Fortnite when he said this, but hey, it definitely applies here.
