Fortnite’s new first-person mode looks an awful lot like Counter-Strike
- Fortnite Ballistic launches in early access on December 11th
- It is a 5v5 competitive first-person mode similar to Counter-Strikes defuse bomb
- Your Fortnite cosmetics are supported in Ballistic
Fortnite is getting a brand new no-build mode this week, and it’s one that might sound a little familiar Counterattack fans.
The mode, Fortnite Ballistic, launches in early access on December 11th. As described by the developer team in a recent blog postit differs greatly from the standard Battle Royale mode by offering a more compact 5v5 experience on a custom map. It is also played from a first-person perspective instead of Battle Royale’s third-person perspective. Ballistic will launch with one map – Skyline 10 – with more to come via future updates.
The goal of Ballistic – and stop me if you’ve heard this before – is to place a ‘Rift Point Device’ at a designated point on the map. If you are part of the attacking team, your job is to ensure that the device explodes by stopping the other team. Meanwhile, the defenders must prevent it from exploding. The game ends when one team has won seven rounds.
It is virtually identical to Counter-Strikes legendary bomb defuse mode. Another similarity in Ballistic is the ability to earn credits at the start of a round and spend them on new weapons and gadgets, allowing each team’s equipment to steadily evolve and improve as the match progresses.
Both ranked and unranked modes are available for Ballistic and items in your Fortnite locker is supported, with some exceptions; skins, back blings, weapon wraps, sprays, and emotes are all useful, but items like pickaxes, contrails, and instruments are not.
