It's the update that so many Fortnite what players have been waiting for – movement speed while running and crouching has been increased, meaning you can now run through the Chapter Five map faster than ever before.
Earlier this month, with the launch of Fortnite In Chapter Five: Season One, players were quick to point out that the flow of the game felt very different, and that not everyone was a big fan of it. Addressing this on Twitter/X on December 4, the official Fortnite account explained that while lateral and backward movements were faster, crouching, running and sprinting were slower (although the players' stamina recovered more quickly).
A few days later the team arrived added that it was “currently exploring a few options to speed things up while keeping the fresh, new animations,” and this latest update has done just that. Outlined in one after on the Fortnite blog, it has been revealed that in addition to the movement speed changes, camera shake has also been reduced, the image players see when they start sprinting has been changed, and the animations have also been adjusted to match the new speeds. It's worth noting that each player's custom diagonal movement settings were reset after the last update, so make sure to check these if you changed them previously.
Several other important changes have also been made. Some parts of the map that were considered too dark at night have been made brighter (the blog post did not specify which ones have been changed) and the edge of the Storm circle should now be easier to see. The weapon icons for the Frenzy Auto Shotgun and the Thunder Burst SMG have been adjusted to make them easier to distinguish from each other as well.
Importantly, the map icons for Society Medallions (which players can earn by defeating certain boss NPCs and then equipping them to regenerate their shield points) should now be more noticeable, and visual noise on the mini-map – which has built up as different players with Medallions were close together – has been reduced in size.
The downtime for this update is over, so players can dive right in and try out the changes for themselves.
