Fortnite lets you mute the ‘confrontational’ emotes
Fortnite bullies are about to get their biggest nerf yet.
Developer Epic Games gives Fortnite players have more control over which emotes they see. A new update released on Tuesday lets players mute a short list of animations said the developers can be used by players in ‘confrontational’ ways – and will mute their appearance for random players by default. Players can now choose whether or not to see the following emotes in the game: Laugh It Up, Take the L, Whipcrack, and Make It Plantain.
The shortlist contains some of them Fortnite‘s more aggressive victory celebrations. As the name suggests, the “Whip crack‘ emote snaps a whip at another player; “Laugh it up‘ has a character swaying with donkey-like laughter. Players who choose to mute these emotes will see a player standing still with no sound.
In Fortnite, players “knock” an enemy before killing them, causing them to crawl and become vulnerable to antics or taunts. Sometimes this can result in funny moments shared between friends, but it can also enable aggressive behavior where players spam these emotes to a stranger. These new settings will now help players control what they see while playing.
A Fortnite blog describes how to use the new feature. To change which emotes are displayed during gameplay, players can go to the ‘Social Privacy’ section of the settings menu and edit the ‘See Confrontation Emotes’ setting. According to the blog post, the game’s default setting mutes these emotes for strangers, but not for friends. So if you want to turn them off completely or see them again, here’s how to change your settings.
