‘I have been admitted to hospital with an underlying infection. I’m so sorry that I can’t perform at the @sunderlandfooddrinkfest tomorrow night.

“I love performing and I’m absolutely gutted I can’t be there tomorrow, but I know I’m in the best place.”

Amelia finally added: “You have the amazingly talented @geoffmullmusic performing for you tomorrow at 6pm. I’ll keep you all posted, lots of love Amelia x.’

She gave further health updates on Sunday, reassuring fans that she finally had her test results and was released from hospital.

‘It resulted in a kidney infection that stemmed from a urinary tract infection that was left untreated. I felt pain in my lower back at the beginning of the week and tried to get into my doctor for three days but they stopped taking appointments or e-consults which resulted in me vomiting and getting migraines and fever but I was diabetes things get a little more complicated as you can imagine.

‘I also had an ultrasound of my kidneys and the good news is that nothing else was found.

‘I would just like to say a huge thank you to all the wonderful staff on Ward 37 at James Cook Hospital who looked after me and gave me the best care. I admire you all, how hard you all work.”

Amelia shot to fame on the singing competition, finishing in third place, while she also took part in Celebrity Big Brother in 2017 and romanced I’m A Celebrity winner Sam Thompson.

In Britain, around 90 percent of adults with diabetes have type 2 diabetes

Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood sugar levels to become too high.

There are two main types of diabetes:

Type 1in which the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin.

Type 2where the body does not produce enough insulin, or the body cells do not respond to insulin.

Type 2 diabetes is much more common than type 1.

In Britain, around 90% of all adults with diabetes have type 2.

Reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes can be achieved through healthy eating, regular exercise and achieving a healthy body weight.

The main symptoms of diabetes include being very thirsty, urinating more often (especially at night), feeling very tired, weight loss and loss of muscle mass.

Although she never completely left her music career, she also joined Geordie Shore in 2020 but left after two series.

Amelia was also rushed to the hospital earlier in February due to a health emergency related to her diabetes.

She shared the news via Instagram that she had been in the hospital for more than two hours and was exhausted.

Although the star did not go into details of what was wrong, the hospital visit was related to the X Factor star’s diabetes.

Sharing a photo of her takeaway coffee in the waiting room, the star wrote: ‘I’ve been in hospital for over two hours. Being diabetic is sometimes mentally tiring for us.

“All of you who have it know what I mean.”

According to the NHS definition, diabetes is usually a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood glucose (sugar) levels to become too high.

There are two kinds. In type 1, the pancreas does not produce insulin and in type 2, the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body cells do not respond to insulin.

Amelia was diagnosed with diabetes when she was just three years old and revealed during her time on X Factor that her condition is very serious.

The You Bring Me Joy singer auditioned for the ITV show when she was just 16 years old and eventually finished in third place in the 2011 series, behind chart-topper Little Mix.

Amelia admitted at the time that there is a possibility she could go blind if her blood sugar levels are too high.

She described at the time how she has to adjust her insulin levels before performing to compensate for the effects of the adrenaline rush when she’s on stage.

‘I need four injections a day and I’ve had it for 14 years now,’ Amelia told the Daily Star, adding: ‘I used to have seizures when I was younger.’

‘Adrenaline takes a lot of energy, so I have to lower my insulin before I perform. It’s hard to get the balance right, but just to be safe, I always lower my insulin right before I perform,” Amelia revealed.

“There’s still a risk of something happening on stage, but I know if I need vibration or chocolate.”
