Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum was left battered after a bare-knuckle MMA match on Friday.

Facing Junior Dos Santos – also a former UFC heavyweight champion – in Jacksonville, Florida, both of Werdum’s eyes were bloodied during the fight.

But his left eye in particular was badly damaged, as play-by-play broadcaster Sean Wheelock couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

‘The eyelid falls off. The eyelid is literally torn open,” Wheelock said.

“If it weren’t for the blood, he could see right through that eyelid.”

Based on the damage Dos Santos did to him, it won’t be a huge surprise that Werdum lost the fight via split decision.

However, the Brazilian had nothing but positive things to say about the bare-knuckle fighting after the match.

“That was my first time (bare-knuckle fighting) and I loved it, that was amazing,” he said, according to MMA fighting.

‘I feel fine. I feel a little sore, but I think it’s okay. I’m fighting someone who was really well prepared. Everyone knows the legend he is.”

Werdum, 46 years old, last fought in the UFC in 2020.
