A former winner of Texas’ Teacher of the Year award will be dismissed from her high school after being accused of having a two-year relationship with a teenage female student.

Brandyn Hargrove, 43, was arrested Dec. 21 on six counts of indecency to a child, four counts of indecency to a child by contact and two counts of indecency to a child by exposure.

Authorities said the victim, now in her 30s, went to police in September about the incident, which began in 2007 when she was 15.

Hargrove posted $240,000 bail hours after her arrest and was released from the Brazoria County Jail, jail records show.

Brazoswood High School officials took steps to terminate her employment during a special board meeting on Jan. 2 in response to the allegations.

Hargrove allegedly dated the former Brazoswood High School student in 2007, when the teacher was about 27 years old.

Clute Police Chief James Fitch said the victim came forward to authorities in September and that the incidents had occurred off campus for two years.

“Unfortunately, this is happening more and more these days,” he said earlier.

‘Since that time, different laws have come into force, the inappropriate relationship between educator and student was no longer in force.

“But your kids go to school and you trust the teachers with it, and then these kinds of things happen.”

The Brazosport Independent School District placed Hargrove on leave in September after learning of the investigation.

Officials then took action to propose terminating her employment at a specially called board meeting on January 2.

She will remain on paid administrative leave until the board takes action to fire her — with a vote scheduled for Jan. 22.

‘She has won numerous awards. She was on our education foundation for the district.”

Another parent added: “That’s not right. You know, you’re there to learn and then this happens.”
