Former St. Louis alderman in fraud case also charged with lying to police

ST. LOUIS — A former St. Louis councilman charged in a fraud case was accused of lying to police about a carjacking last year, authorities said.

Brandon Bosley was charged Wednesday with one felony count of filing a false police report when he said a woman tried to carjack him last year, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Months ago, he was indicted by federal officials in a fraud and bribery investigation that landed three other former St. Louis aldermen in prison last December.

Charging documents say there was no evidence of an attempted carjacking and that several parts of Bosley’s story did not match what investigators found, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Officers spoke with Bosley and the woman on Dec. 22, according to court documents, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Bosley accused the woman of robbing him, while the woman told police Bosley had hit her with his car.

According to court documents, Bosley told police he had been robbed at a specific address and that he was following a car that he said had shot at him. But investigators discovered he was not at that address at the time in question, and surveillance footage showed he was not following any cars.

He is scheduled to appear in court on those charges on December 27, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Meanwhile, Bosley’s case remains pending in federal court, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. He was charged by federal officials in June with three counts of auto insurance fraud.

Three other former St. Louis aldermen, including the longtime council chairman, were sentenced to prison terms — about three to four years each — for taking bribes from a businessman.

The businessman provided bribes in exchange for tax breaks and a reduced rate for acquiring city property. The former councilors are Lewis Reed, Jeffrey Boyd and John Collins-Muhammad.

They are all men and Democrats, along with Bosley.
