Mauricio Pochettino would be willing to return to Tottenham, according to one of the men who helped plan the Argentine’s first spell at the club.
David Webb spent two years as head of elite identification and player development at the north London club and was responsible for scouting Son Heung-min when he was still plying his trade in the Bundesliga.
Speculation remains rife regarding the managers’ bench at Spurs following Antonio Conte’s scathing comments to the media after his team collapsed against struggling Southampton last week.
Although he admitted he’s not sure what Pochettino’s relationship with club president Daniel Levy is like, especially after the Argentine’s sacking in 2019, Webb thinks his former colleague could be next in line if the Italian is sacked.
“I don’t think Poch wants to be pigeonholed solely in the Premier League. If a good offer came up in Spain or Germany, he would also be open to that.’ webb said Sun.
Former Spurs manager David Webb has stated that Mauricio Pochettino would be open to a return to the club.
The Premier League will always be your first choice. He was phenomenal at Tottenham, and I’d be open to that again.
Spotting a young Wilfried Zaha was one of Webb’s early scouting successes, and the former York City boss has kept in touch with the Ivory Coast international to this day.
Zaha’s contract at Crystal Palace is due to expire this summer, and Webb explained his belief that the club’s recent sacking of Patrick Vieira could be the impetus for the 30-year-old’s departure from Selhurst Park.
Webb added that if Zaha decides to stay in the Premier League, his most likely destination would be to move to another London club, as Pochettino is reportedly a big fan of the striker.
Webb worked with Pochettino as Spurs’ head of elite identification and player development.
Webb also pointed out that the Argentine was a big fan of Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha.
“From what I know he’s really settled, with all his family in the Croydon, Beckenham, Bromley area, so if he was trying something new, another London club would be ideal.”
I know he has had good offers from abroad like Saudi Arabia, but I think his ideal would be to prove himself in the Premier League at a top club.
I know that Poch was a great admirer of his. I still think he’s attractive for a couple of years because he still has great attributes for the Premier League.”
