A former Premier League star has accused a cleaner of stealing nearly half a million pounds worth of jewelery from his mother.

The ex-striker claimed the alleged incident took place at his mother’s home in Elstree on the morning of Wednesday, June 14, before taking to social media to try to find the cleaner.

Seemingly trying to identify the alleged suspect, the former Democratic Republic of Congo international posted several Instagram stories calling for government support.

The 30-year-old even went so far as to post the cleaner’s passport, with all their personal details and photo, to his 1.2 million Instagram followers.

In his stories, he posted CCTV footage of the alleged suspect leaving his house, as well as links to their TikTok account.

The footballer in question is former Arsenal, Stoke, Bournemouth and Millwall striker Benik Afobe.

Afobe is currently plying his trade in Dubai at Hatta Club, having left the Lions on a free contract in January following an abysmal championship season.

Since first leaving Arsenal on loan in 2010, the 30-year-old has played for a total of 12 more clubs in three different countries in a long traveling career.

Posting the photo of the alleged suspect’s passport, he wrote: ‘This woman stole £400,000 worth of my family’s jewelery this morning from my mum’s house in Elstree while cleaning!!

“If anyone knows her, let me know ASAP!!”

Another post, this time including her TikTok account, read: “If you’re going to rob someone for half a million pounds worth of valuables, at least delete your social media first.”

Afobe was eliminated six times by the Democratic Republic of Congo, but last played for the Leopards in 2018.

Arguably his best season came in 2021-22 when he scored 13 goals and three assists for Millwall in all competitions and made 41 appearances on loan, but the resulting transfer resulted in a poor return of just two goals.
