Former Premier League and international footballer, 24, is ‘arrested on suspicion of raping woman in London hotel’

A former Premier League footballer has been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman at a London hotel.

The 24-year-old was arrested by police at the exclusive Corinthia Hotel in Whitehall Place, Westminster, on October 9.

The former international footballer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been released on bail.

It is understood the female complainant reported the alleged attack to the reception of the five-star hotel early on Wednesday morning.

Sources told The Sun that she had returned to the hotel with him after meeting him at a bar in central London.

The woman claims she was then attacked and raped by the footballer, who was arrested at the hotel and taken to Charing Cross police station.

The 24-year-old, also a former international star, was stopped by police at the exclusive Corinthia Hotel (pictured), in Whitehall Place, Westminster, on October 9.

The suspect was interrogated by police throughout the day and a DNA swab, mugshot and fingerprints were taken.

The £750-a-night room is also being examined by forensics, while CCTV footage is being analysed.

A source said The sun: ‘She met the player at a bar and agreed to go back to his hotel, where he had previously booked.

‘She claims he then assaulted and raped her.

‘The woman went to the hotel reception and was very upset.

‘The police were called and officers arrived and arrested him at the hotel. To the surprise of the guests and staff, he was then led outside.’

The newspaper reports that the player was born abroad and has played for several English clubs, as well as representing his own country. The source said he is a recognizable Premier League star.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: ‘A 24-year-old man was arrested at an address on Whitehall Place, SW1A, at 9.53am on Wednesday, October 9, following an allegation of rape.

‘He has been released on bail until mid-December.

‘A woman is supported by specially trained officers.

“The investigation is ongoing and investigations are still ongoing.”
