Former NRL star Alex McKinnon takes his new relationship to new heights with a sweet tattoo

Alex McKinnon has professed his love for his new girlfriend Lilly Malone with a new tattoo.

The paralyzed former NRL star, 32, and his new partner, 22, took to their respective Instagram Stories on Friday to share a black and white photo of the fresh ink.

Alex’s arm features an artistic rendering of Lilly’s lips, and the surprising tattoo is located directly above the outline of a chili pepper.

Captioning the sweet click, Lilly confirmed that it was indeed her lips.

“@alexmckinnon’s newest addition = my lips,” Lily wrote, adding a “lips” emoji to add to the sweet sentiment.

Alex debuted his new romance with Lily in March when the pair shared a loved-up photo on their Instagram pages.

He posted the photo of them both dressed in pink at Lily’s 22nd birthday party just hours before the NRL season opener kicked off in Las Vegas.

Moments later, Lily, who is studying a bachelor’s degree in social work at Newcastle University, debuted McKinnon on her own Instagram page, sharing the same photo with a love heart emoji.

Alex’s new romance comes two years after splitting with ex-wife Teigan Power.

Alex and Teigan’s love story captured the hearts of Australians when she vowed to support the NRL star after he broke his spine in a three-man tackle while playing for the Newcastle Knights on March 24, 2014.

He underwent operations to fuse his C4 and C5 vertebrae and spent five days in a coma before being confined to a wheelchair at the age of 22.

The day after he woke up, doctors told him the heartbreaking news that he would likely remain paralyzed and never walk again.

His girlfriend, who was only twenty at the time, promised to support him during his recovery.

They had their first little girl, Harriet Ann, via IVF in 2018, followed by twins Audrey and Violet in 2021 before splitting in 2022.

Speak with News Corp in March, Alex said he’s open to welcoming more children into his life.

“When you go through a lot of things in your life and a lot of changes in your environment, you realize that family is all you have,” McKinnon said.

‘Divorce, losing that element of an extended family and being single for the past two and a half years has made me realize how much I love my family and the company of people you love and what you care about.
