Former New Mexico and Texas football player Jaden Hullaby has passed away at the age of 21, both schools announced Monday.
There is no mention of a cause of death. Hullaby played two games as a linebacker for Texas in 2020 and was red-shirted in 2021 before moving to New Mexico.
Earlier on Monday, Lando Hullaby, Jaden’s younger brother, posted a tweet suggesting that Jaden was no longer alive.
Hullaby had been missing since Friday, and a family member said on social media on Sunday that the family “couldn’t track any of his devices.”
He was reportedly last seen in his hometown of Dallas.

Hullaby’s younger brother, Lando – a defensive back at Texas Tech – posted on Twitter Monday
“Live forever by big brudda,” Landon Hullaby, a defensive back at Texas Tech, posted on Twitter. “I love you so much and I have you and the family forever. I swear to you in peace, king.’
“It is such devastating and tragic news to learn that Jaden has passed away,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said in a statement.
“He was an amazing person and someone we all enjoyed being around, coaching and spending time with.
“All our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates, and we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to them at this difficult time.”
Hullaby played running back and tight end for New Mexico last season and had 13 carries for 59 yards and caught two passes for 44 yards in eight games. He entered the transfer portal after the season.
“The Lobo family is saddened by the passing of former RB/TE Jaden Hullaby,” New Mexico said on Twitter.

Hullaby’s former high school coach Brian LeGrand expressed his feelings Monday afternoon
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jaden’s family and everyone who knew him.”
Brian LeGrand, Hullaby’s high school coach, also shared an emotional message on Twitter on Monday.
‘In utter shock at the moment. One of the best young men I’ve had the pleasure of teaching and coaching.
“Great student, athlete and even better human being who showed exemplary leadership. Rest in peace, Jaden condolences to all the Hullaby family.”
