Former Mobil gas station erected in 1925 is restored and turned into gorgeous Airbnb – would you book a stay?

For $130 a night you can stay in a 98 year old gas station!

A creative mother-daughter duo transformed a 1925 station into an adorable home for Airbnb guests.

Missy Meyer, 58, and her daughter Sarah Mensing, 24, showed off their creativity by converting an old Mobil gas station, built in 1975, into a beautiful home where Airbnb guests could stay for $130 a night.

From the outside, the building still looks like a gas station – complete with red and white vintage gas pumps advertising Mobilgas and Mobilgas Special.

Inside the building there is a house – with a double bedroom, a fully stocked kitchen in a retro atmosphere, a large living room, an office and a bathroom that is much nicer than your average gas station toilet.

Meyer’s father bought the gas station property in 1998 and turned it into a “little weekend getaway,” according to WCAX3.

The unique building is located in the small town of Peterson, Minnesota, where fewer than 200 people live.

Peterson extends over an area of just 0.51 square miles and is bisected by the Root River segment of the Blufflands State Trail – a popular spot for hikers and cyclists.

The mother-daughter duo transformed the 6,000-square-foot property into an Airbnb earlier this year — and they say it was a hit.

Guests agree, with one visitor calling the property a “cute corner with an interesting history” and another saying they enjoyed “the nostalgia of the building as an old gas station.”

In addition to adding a shower, the gas station remains in its original form. “We still have the original hardwood floors with oil stains. We have the original oven and light fixtures,” said Mensing (photo)

Another reviewer said their stay at the gas station “really felt like being at Grandma’s.” They said: ‘What a beautiful place – so much character! Small town, main street, peaceful, quiet, great front terrace to enjoy a drink, read and watch the world go by.’

Shawn stayed at the property in 2023 and said the “bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed sitting under the outdoor canopy as the vintage gas pumps lit up at night.”

The Airbnb received a rating of 4.86 with five points for cleanliness, communication, location and check-in system.

Meyer said, “Believe it or not, I’ve had people come by and think it was still a gas station.”

“It’s really crazy to think about,” Meyer said. “Every now and then the neighbors can come over and tell their stories about what they remember about maybe getting candy at the gas station.”
