Former Love Island winner announces he’s engaged as he pops the question during romantic New Year countdown proposal

Former Love Island winner Greg O’Shea has revealed he is engaged to girlfriend Jeanni Mulder.

The Irish star, 29, first found fame in 2019 after being crowned winner of the dating show with then-partner Amber Gill.

However, six years later, Greg has found love with his partner of two years and asked her to be his wife during the romantic countdown to the New Year.

Greg shared on Instagram on Thursday the moment he popped the question to a stunned Jeanni as the clock struck midnight.

Captioning the heartwarming video, which saw him burst into tears when Jeanni said “yes,” Greg wrote: “3, 2, 1… special way to start the new year “

The Irish rugby player also shared a series of photos showing his now fiancée showing off her dazzling engagement ring.

The photos showed Jeanni, originally from South Africa, bursting with joy as she cuddled up to her husband-to-be against an idyllic backdrop.

She showed off her new ring as the couple posed in a number of loved-up images.

Captioning the post, Greg wrote: “We grew up in different worlds and now spend the rest of our lives together.”

While Jeanni added: ‘wow, absolutely blown away by all the love we have received – in the happiest love bubble at the moment, but thank you so much for all your kind messages, we see and appreciate them all and I wish you all the best wonderful New Year.’

The couple’s post drew many congratulatory messages from fans and showbiz friends.

The couple’s big moment comes just over two years since they first met in 2022.

Jeanni was encouraged to slide into Greg’s DMs after meeting a group of Irish girls while traveling in Bali.

As for how they got together, Greg previously explained CALL: “The Irish girls said they heard me on a podcast and that Jeanni should message me because we’re both quote unquote. So according to Irish women I’m a bit pathetic, and so is Jeanni. She ended up in my DMs.”

The sportsman further admitted that he initially thought he was being catfished by the blonde beauty before romance quickly blossomed for the duo.

He added: “I clearly thought she was catfishing me at first. She then put me on WhatsApp, then FaceTimed me and finally flew to Dublin.’

Concluding his talk about their love story, Greg added, “Two years later, she’s living with me!”

While Greg is clearly delighted with his choice to make Jeanni his wife, he previously spoke about the “worst decision of my life” after turning down an opportunity to party with Margot Robbie.

Film star Margot, 34, is a big fan of the ITV2 show and once even threw a Love Island themed birthday party.

She had previously invited several islanders to celebrate with her after meeting in London premiered Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn last year.

After bumping into 2019 contestants Lucie Donlan, Michael Griffiths and Jordan Hames on the red carpet, she brought them back to her apartment later that evening.

However, Greg was also invited to the impromptu party and chose not to go, admitting that the decision “breaks my heart.”

He appeared on The Six O’Clock Show alongside fellow Canadian Chris Taylor, who recently had a small cameo in the Barbie movie.

Chris revealed that he got the part after arriving at the party and talking to Margot, who later contacted him about being in the film.

Chris recalled on the radio, “It all started at the (Harley Quinn) Birds of Prey premiere, which I actually didn’t even go to. And I know you were invited to that, but you decided not to go.”

Greg admitted, “Worst decision of my life.”
