Former Hull City and Bolton footballer Marcus Maddison gets 20 months in prison for GBH after assault on 60-year-old woman

Former Newcastle and Hull City player Marcus Maddison has been given a 20-month prison sentence for attacking a 60-year-old woman in September.
Maddison was given the long sentence by Teesside Crown Court after he admitted to causing grievous bodily harm to the woman in question.
The 29-year-old was playing for Darlington FC in the National League North when the incident happened. The club has since maintained that they have a ‘zero tolerance’ policy for abusive behaviour.
The club confirmed that his contract was terminated by mutual consent following an ‘immediate disciplinary investigation’.
According to BBC newsa spokesman for the club said: ‘Darlington FC is a fan-owned club and has no tolerance for discrimination, violence or abusive behaviour.’

Maddison started his career in Newcastle United’s academy but never managed to make a senior appearance for the Magpies.
He spent time with St Johnstone and Gateshead before finally landing in Peterborough, making 249 appearances over six seasons.
After impressing there, Maddison earned transfers to Hull City, Charlton and Bolton Wanderers, where he failed to catch on.
On his Bolton debut in February this year, Maddison came on as a substitute and was sent off after just 12 minutes of play.
Shortly after his spell at the club, Maddison claimed: via social media post – that he was ‘one step away from football’.
However, he returned to club football in May 2021, signing for Spalding United.
He eventually left the club to join Darlington F.C. where he played until the September incident.
