Former homeless hero who stopped runaway stroller reveals he just finished a job interview

A Good Samaritan who saved a baby boy in a stroller from speeding has spoken out, revealing he had just completed a job interview when he made the heartbreaking rescue.

Ron Nessman had previously been homeless for eight years and had just conducted an interview at a nearby Applebee’s restaurant in Hesperia, California, when he saw the stroller roll straight onto the main road.

Painful video footage shows Nessman saving the baby after his great-aunt suddenly tripped and fell to the floor, losing her grip on the stroller.

Nessman was sitting on the bench of a nearby car wash when he watched the baby move toward the four-lane Bear Valley Road, pushed by high winds blowing through the high desert.

“I didn’t have time to even think about it. You just react,” he said KCAL News.

“I saw her and I felt so bad for the lady,” he told the outlet. “I have nieces and nephews and I couldn’t imagine anything like that.

‘I couldn’t live with myself, I didn’t do anything. I’m just glad I realized it and was on it.”

He said he could imagine being in the distress in which he saw the baby’s great-aunt at that moment of crisis.

Nessman, a former truck driver, lost his girlfriend in 2018. The tragedy sent him into a depression and left him homeless for eight years.

He had only recently returned to Hesperia to reconnect with his family, and has been living with his sister for three months.

“My girlfriend passed away in 2018,” he said. “It was sudden and I didn’t want to do anything.”

He told NBCLA: ‘I decided to be right. If you want something different in your life, you do something different and that’s where I am now.’

“I thank my sister for helping me. She’s always been there for me.’

Nessman’s sister, Donna Gunderson, told the outlet about seeing her heroic brother spring into action to save the baby boy.

“I heard screaming on the right,” she said. And I look back and I see a stroller coming down the driveway and my heart was pounding.”

It was then that she saw her brother grab the stroller before it rolled onto the road, where she said cars “run 50 to 55 and it was a busy time of day.”

Nessman said he was thankful that the child and his unknown great-aunt are both okay.

He said, “I knew I could have it and I got it and I’m thankful for that because I really wouldn’t want to see the end result if it weren’t for me.

She tried everything she could to get up. Her knees bled when I got to her. She was still shocked and she was crying.’
