Former Harvard women’s hockey coach Katey Stone files sex discrimination lawsuit against the school

Katey Stone, former coach of Harvard women’s hockey, filed a sex discrimination lawsuit against the Ivy League school in Massachusetts federal court on Tuesday.

Stone alleges in the lawsuit that Harvard forced her to resign last year amid allegations of misconduct and hazing, which she denies.

Stone also alleges she faced gender discrimination and unfair pay from Harvard while heading the women’s hockey program.

After multiple reports emerged last year that there were concerns about bullying within Stone’s program, she left the program.

Now Stone is changing her tune, saying she was forced to resign and that she did not resign voluntarily.

Stone left Harvard while the school investigated the health of the Crimsons’ women’s hockey program.

According to The Athletic, Stone’s hazing included a “Hunger Games for mental health” and a “naked ice skate” for players.

“I will no longer stand idly by in the face of inequality and injustice and allow one of the world’s elite universities to continue to hide behind the fraudulent veil of fairness,” Stone said, according to the Boston Globe.

“The loss of my career, my reputation, my ability to earn a living doing a job I love is heartbreaking. The damage is real and it affects me every day.”

Stone is the fourth winningest women’s hockey coach in Harvard history. She is also the third coach in women’s college hockey history to win 300 games.

Since the allegations became public last summer, Stone has not been hired by another school.

Harvard has not yet publicly commented on the lawsuit or on Stone.
