A former Chelsea star has signed as the new head coach of UAE Pro League team Al Ain.

The ex-striker scored more than 300 goals in a career spanning 19 years.

After being signed from Chelsea by Claudio Ranieri in 2003, he won the Premier League under Jose Mourinho before leaving Stamford Bridge for good in 2008.

He has played for clubs such as Lazio, Inter Milan and Parma, and is the fourth highest ever scorer for his country internationally, with 35 goals for Argentina.

Now Hernan Crespo is the new coach of Al Ain and succeeds former Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder.

His appointment was announced by the club on Wednesday afternoon.

Crespo was manager of Al Duhail before the Qatari team replaced him with former PSG coach Christophe Galtier.

Now he gets another chance in the dugout, this time in Abu Dhabi.

Based in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain is currently third in the UAE Pro League.
