Former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf has claimed to know that Jose Mourinho has one last ambition in management.

Mourinho was sacked by Roma on Tuesday when the club were ninth in Serie A and was replaced just hours later by former captain Daniele De Rossi.

The Portuguese coach was spotted leaving the training ground with tears in his eyes on Tuesday and has since delivered a cryptic farewell message to fans, reading: ‘Sudore, sangue, lacrime, allegria, tristezza, amoR, fratelli, storia, cuore , eternity .’

It was the sixth dismissal of the 60-year-old’s career, and there is no clear destination for where the former Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid manager will end up next.

One man who may have an idea is Leboeuf, who turned to acting after more than two hundred appearances for the Blues. The 55-year-old claims via ESPN that he was told by the man himself what else he wants to achieve in his career.

ā€œI remember interviewing Mr. Mourinho when he was in Madrid or Chelsea when he came to Los Angeles,ā€ Leboeuf began. ‘He admitted that the last thing he would like to do in his coaching career would be a job with the Portuguese national team. I think that’s going to be his goal.

“It’s difficult with Roberto (Martinez) at the moment, but I really think he can be patient and see how things go during the European Championship and then maybe jump into the seat if he gets the chance.”

Martinez is the man tasked with bringing success to the Portuguese national team and leading them to the European Championships this summer, having joined the club following his departure from Belgium last year.

Mourinho, meanwhile, has never coached at national level, although a disaster for Portugal in the summer could open the door for him to take charge of his national team.

Mourinho’s dismissal unsurprisingly dominated the front pages of Italian sports dailies on Wednesday. Corriere dello Sport dubbed Mourinho the ‘Fired One’, an obvious play on his old ‘Special One’ nickname.

The ā€œcapital is in shock,ā€ they wrote, after Roma’s owners, the Friedkin family, fired the man who guided the club to two European finals.

They quote the statement from Dan and Ryan Friedkin, who emphasized that “immediate change” was necessary “in the best interests of the club.”
