Former Bulldogs star Mark O’Meley ‘resuscitated’ by doctors after suffering a ‘cardiac arrest during an operation on his back’

Former Bulldogs and New South Wales sponsor Mark O’Meley reportedly had to be ‘resuscitated’ by doctors after he ‘went into cardiac arrest’ during surgery on his back, but is reportedly ‘OK’.

The news was revealed by his former Bulldogs teammate Willie Mason while talking about his Levels podcast with Justin Horo. Mason sent his well wishes to his old teammate and his family during the podcast.

O’Meley, 43, enjoyed a distinguished playing career in rugby league, winning the premiership with Canterbury in 2004 alongside Mason.

O’Meley, affectionately known as ‘the Ogre’, played for the Roosters before moving to Britain to play for Hull FC. He would announce in 2014 that he was hanging up his boots, only to retire a year later.

‘Great Boggart [O’Meley] just called me,” Mason said during the latest episode of the Levels podcast.

‘Can I say something about Ogre? Shout out to Ogre, he had back surgery and went into cardiac arrest.”

“I’m only saying this as Sandy [O’Meley’s partner] put it on Facebook. He’s fine.

“But shout out to Big Ogre and the family. I love you buddy. And yes, it was scary when he wrote the message when he found out yesterday.

‘He was in bed and they had to resuscitate him. Scary brother. At least he’s okay. Big man, take care of yourself, buddy.”
