Former Boston Red Sox player and 2004 World Series winner Dave McCarty has died at the age of 54.
According to the team, McCarty suffered a “heart attack” in Oakland, California.
“Our hearts are heavy with the passing of Dave McCarty,” the team said in a statement.
“He played three seasons with the Red Sox and will forever be a part of the curse-breaking 2004 World Series championship team.
“We send our love to his wife Monica and their children Reid and Maxine.”

The former first baseman and outfielder spent the last three seasons of his 11-year career in Major League Baseball with the Red Sox.
McCarty has played 630 games in the seven-team MLB and was at the Red Sox’ Fenway Park earlier this month to pay tribute to the team that won the 2004 World Series.
