Former Biden head of nuclear waste policy Sam Brinton ends 2023 a FREE person after being accused of stealing women’s clothing from airport suitcases

Despite facing a series of theft charges related to stealing luggage at the airport, non-binary former Biden administration official Sam Brinton is ending their 2023 as a free person.

Brinton, 32, was charged in three separate criminal cases in Nevada, Minnesota and Virginia with stealing women's clothing at airports.

They spent two weeks in jail on suspicion of stealing a suitcase from Tanzanian-American fashion designer Asyakhamsin at Ronald Reagan International Airport in 2018, but were released on June 1.

The former head of nuclear waste policy at the Department of Energy's Office of Nuclear Energy avoided jail in two of the cases, although a third is still pending, as is a related civil suit.

They have yet to speak publicly about the charges but have admitted this in court and are currently out on bail.

Brinton left the government in 2022, although their reasoning was not publicly given.

Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming, ranking Republican member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said their hiring showed that the administration's vetting process was not up to standards. reported the New York Post.
β€œWhen people are appointed to critical positions with important national security responsibilities, Americans must be confident that they can be trusted,” Barrasso said at the time.

β€œThe department must initiate a thorough investigation into the vetting process,” he added.

'They must respond to legitimate supervisory questions. It is in our national security interest.”

In 2018, Brinton stole a suitcase from Tanzanian designer Asya Khamsin at Ronald Reagan Airport in Virginia.

It wasn't reported until this year, when Khamsin – who lives in Texas – saw photos of Brinton wearing her clothes.

The footage was used in reports on Brinton's other thefts: they also stole a suitcase in Las Vegas last July, and another in Minneapolis in September.

Brinton spent a two-week stint in jail on suspicion of stealing a suitcase from Tanzanian-American fashion designer Asyakhamsin at Ronald Reagan International Airport in 2018, but was released in early June.

In February, a shocked Asyakhamsin went public with her allegations, saying her suitcase went missing at Reagan National in 2018 and that she had since seen photos of Brinton wearing her custom designs.

The fashion guru, based in Houston, shared side-by-side photos of herself wearing one of her outfits, alongside a photo that surfaced of Brinton in what she said was the same garment.

Asyakhamsin's luggage containing the outfits she accused Brinton of being photographed in disappeared at the airport when she flew to Washington, DC for a fashion event in 2018.

The outfits were meant to be on display, but the designer said at the time that she was unable to participate in the event as she had hoped after her luggage went missing.

Khamsin says so the theft of her bag in 2018 hurt her business because many of the items taken were 'custom'.

The clothes have now been returned to her, but years of lack of clothes or any information about who took them has left her feeling down, she says.

Brinton's downfall began last November when they were caught on camera stealing a suitcase from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

They were filmed taking the suitcase from the baggage carousel, removing the tag that listed Khamsin as the rightful owner, and putting the tag in their bag.

Brinton was arrested and charged with theft in November after telling police they were “tired” when they “accidentally” took the bag – and then felt too embarrassed to give it back.

Then it turned out that Brinton had a habit of taking other people's luggage.

In December, police in Las Vegas revealed that they were also investigating Brinton for taking a bag from the baggage carousel at Harry Reid Airport months earlier in July.

Before their kleptomania became public, they were a celebrated member of Biden's Department of Energy.
