Kovac, 52, was born in Berlin, Germany, but captained Croatia during a playing career as a stylish defensive midfielder.

Moving into management, he won the German Cup with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018, before claiming the league and cup double title a year later as head coach of Bayern Munich. He also coached Monaco from 2020 to 2022.

However, his spell at Wolfsburg did not pan out and he left in March.

Bundesliga clubs are also considering Kovac as an interest.
