League Two club Bromley have announced the surprise signing of a former England international.

Bromley, who were promoted from the National League last season, started their League Two campaign well with wins over Harrogate Town and AFC Wimbledon in their opening two games.

However, Andy Woodman’s team is winless against the last five in the competition.

But South London will do everything they can to stay afloat and hope the former England defender’s signature will be enough.

That’s why Woodman has turned to former Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson, who has joined Bromley on a permanent deal.

Despite the English transfer window closing on August 30, Bromley was able to complete the signing as Jenkinson was a free agent after leaving Australian club Newcastle Jets.

The 32-year-old made 34 appearances in all competitions for the Jets in his two seasons there after being transferred to Australia from City Football Group side Melbourne City on loan from Nottingham in 2022. Forest.

Jenkinson’s move to Bromley marks the fifth London club he has played for.

The right-back joined Charlton Athletic at the age of seven and was a first-team starter in February 2011 before joining Welling United on loan in 2010, giving him a good taste of men’s football.

Just four months later he signed for Arsenal and would go on to make 70 appearances for the Gunners during an eight-year spell that saw him win the FA Cup in 2014.

Jenkinson would go on loan to West Ham United for two consecutive seasons from 2014 to 2016.

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger sent Jenkinson on loan to Birmingham City for the 2017/18 season before signing a permanent contract with Nottingham Forest in 2019.

Jenkinson earned his first and only England cap in 2012 when he replaced Glen Johnson in a friendly against Sweden.
