Former University of Alabama defensive back Terrance Howard has died after being struck by a vehicle in North Carolina in late July.
The news was discussed by Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer during a press conference.
“Before I comment on the team, I want to extend our thoughts and prayers to Terrance Howard, who was with us and has transferred to North Carolina Central,” DeBoer said during Alabama’s post-practice press conference on Sunday.
“He’s passed away and he’s got a bunch of guys on this team that were close to him and are thinking about him as well. I just want to send my prayers and thoughts to his family.”
According to one of his former coaches, Howard was on life support for several days before dying of his injuries last Thursday.

Howard transferred from Alabama – where he was a walk-on – to North Carolina Central
Former high school coach Rick LaFevers told KTRK Houston that Howard, who had transferred to North Carolina Central, was driving to that school’s campus during a rainstorm when he was involved in a car accident.
LaFevers says Howard got out of his car to check on the others involved when he was hit by a passing car.
After being in a medically induced coma for ten days, Howard died of his injuries on July 30.
Howard graduated from Ridge Point High School in Missouri City, Texas in 2022.
LaFevers told KTRK that Howard didn’t play on the varsity team until his senior year of high school.
“I remember the practices because he played cornerback and if he got beat in the competitive drills he would say, ‘One more time, let’s go one more time,’” LaFavers said.
The coach added: ‘I just remember his smile. He came to my office, to the coach’s office, gave me a hug and went to talk to the team.’
Howard did not play a single game for the Crimson Tide during his time in Tuscaloosa and transferred to North Carolina Central in hopes of gaining more playing time.
