A judge on Wednesday denied bail for former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles, who faces a capital murder charge in connection with a fatal shooting near campus.

Tuscaloosa County Circuit Judge Daniel Pruet said at a hearing Wednesday that the bond issue could be reviewed later.

Miles has pleaded not guilty to the shooting death of 23-year-old Jamea Harris in January.

The former reserve forward and Michael Lynn Davis, both 21 at the time, are charged with capital murder.

Former Alabama teammates, including Jahvon Quinerly, Jaden Quinerly and Noah Gurley, attended the hearing, according to al.com.

Investigators said Harris was in the passenger seat of a car when she was hit by a bullet, leading to a murder charge in Alabama.

Davis is accused of firing the gun that killed the young woman, according to court documents filed in Tuscaloosa. Investigators wrote in a court document that Miles admitted to providing the gun just before the shooting.

Defense attorneys suggested at an earlier court hearing that the two reacted defensively after an altercation with a young man in Harris’ group.

Harris’s murder became a major storyline around Alabama’s season, as Miles was kicked off the team and star player Brandon Miller was also linked to the shooting.

Although the All-American was not charged in the case, according to police, Miller allegedly brought a gun to Miles that was later used by Davis in the fatal shooting.

“This whole situation is really heartbreaking, but with all due respect, that’s all I can say about it,” Miller said on March 8.

Tuscaloosa’s deputy chief DA Paula Whitley declined to tell al.com in February why Miller was not charged.

“That’s not a question I can answer,” she said. “We can’t accuse him of anything.”

The NBA candidate would lead No. 1 seed Alabama to a Sweet 16 appearance in March Madness, and is expected to be a top three selection in next month’s draft.
