Thompson rose to fame as a top goal scorer for Hawthorn in the early Naughties.

After entering first-class football with the Hawks in 1998, Thompson left the club to join North Melbourne for the 2005 season.

He eventually retired in 2008 after playing a total of 189 games in the AFL.
