- Plymouth fell behind after eight minutes due to a goal by Vakoun Issouf Bayo
- Former Premier League striker equalized before Rooney’s side fell behind again
A forgotten Premier League striker scored a stunning goal to draw Wayne Rooney level against Watford.
Plymouth went into Friday evening 18th in the Championship table and just one point behind the relegation zone.
And they got off to the worst possible start when Vakoun Issouf Bayo put Watford ahead from close range after just eight minutes.
The Pilgrims leveled in the 23rd minute thanks to former Hornets striker Andre Gray’s super volley.
Defender Lewis Gibson played a long ball and Gray watched the ball all the time before finding the bottom corner for the first time against his old club.
It was the 33-year-old’s second Championship goal of the season after returning to England this summer.
Gray left QPR after scoring 10 goals in 28 in the 2021-2022 season to join Greek side Arid.
He then joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Riyadh and scored seven goals in 26 games before joining Plymouth.
Gray is known for his time in the Premier League at Watford, where he scored fourteen goals in 83 top-flight games, including nine for Burnley.
Meanwhile, Rooney’s team fell behind again against Watford four minutes before Ryan Porteous’ breakthrough.
