‘Force of nature’ mom, 32, dies of cervical cancer after forgetting to reschedule canceled screening appointment

A grieving father has urged women to be vigilant about cervical cancer checkups after revealing that his late daughter forgot to reschedule a canceled screening for the disease.

Zoey Williams, 32, was later diagnosed with the disease in August last year and died earlier this month at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

Her father Paul Williams has led the tribute to barmaid Zoey, who leaves behind 12-year-old son Mason, describing her as a “force of nature.”

Mr Williams has called on other women to ensure they book cervical screenings after revealing Zoey’s first appointment was cancelled.

He said, “She had her appointment and it was canceled for whatever reason, and she just didn’t get around to rearranging it.

‘I think it’s very important that everyone knows how important it is to go to those appointments.

“Going to these appointments is so important, it could have saved Zoey.”

Mr Williams, who is known locally as the frontman of the band The Skapones, added: ‘She was very determined and stubborn.

She was always very independent. When she was 17 she knew she wanted to move from York, where we’re from, to Doncaster, and there was no stopping her.

“She was a drama queen, always getting herself into trouble and calling me to get her out.

“I was just thinking about the stupid things she did as a kid. She sure looked like me.’

“My wife and I read her diaries that she was writing before she died. She didn’t want us to read them while she was still here.

“Of course a lot of it is heartbreaking and hard to read, but a lot of it is also very funny. She had a great sense of humor and was always very down to earth about things.

“We laughed because she ended almost every sentence with fun.”

As next month is Cervical Cancer Screening Awareness Month, Mr Williams and his son Jack are planning a 90km walk to draw attention to the disease Zoey has sadly contracted.

A crowdfunding page has been set up for this purpose and donations can be made here.
