Footy star shows off gruesome scar on his head as he stuns teammates by returning to training just days after suffering a fractured skull

AFL Premier Gary Rohan has made a stunning return to training with a horrific scar just a week after undergoing emergency surgery to repair his fractured skull.

Rohan, 33, was at Geelong’s running event on Monday to do some light work as his teammates prepare for Saturday’s preliminary final against Brisbane at the MCG.

Rohan, who most likely would not be able to play again this year, had a large scar on his head with 30 visible staples.

The Cats veteran was accidentally elbowed in the head during the first quarter of Geelong’s VFL semi-final loss to Southport just over a week ago.

Although he did not need any help to get to the locker rooms, he was taken to hospital for further examination, where scans confirmed the worst.

He later shared a heartfelt update and a photo of himself lying in a hospital bed being comforted by his wife Madi.

“Not where I planned my weekend,” the father of three captioned the post.

‘Scans have shown I have a fractured skull, but I’m doing well and I’m in the best hands.

‘Now we just have to wait for the operation. Thanks for all the messages and good wishes.’

He had planned a comeback for the Cats senior team, who secured a place in the AFL preliminary round and are now just one win away from the grand final.

While Rohan was in hospital, he was inundated with messages from teammates, opponents and fans.

“Get well brother, sending you healing vibes,” said Australian country singer Troy Cassar Daley.

Home and Away star Lynne McGranger wrote: ‘Get well soon Gary!’

Rohan has split his season between the senior team and the VFL reserves team this year. His last senior appearance this year came in a 12th appearance in a round 23 loss to St Kilda.
