Retired AFL star Sam Fisher has admitted trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine between Victoria and Western Australia.

Fisher, 41, appeared via video link in the Victorian County Court on Thursday where he formally pleaded guilty to six charges.

This includes trafficking in a large commercial quantity of methamphetamine, trafficking in cocaine and possession of drugs including LSD, ketamine and testosterone.

Fisher, a former All-Australian and two-time St Kilda best and fairest, organized a package containing one kilo of methylamphetamine and 84 grams of cocaine to be sent from Melbourne to Perth.

The drugs, hidden in an extractor hood, were seized by WA Police on April 20, 2022.

Police then arrested Fisher on May 18 and searched his home in Hampton in Melbourne’s south-east.

They seized more than 13 grams of methylamphetamine and almost two liters of 1,4-butanediol, as well as other drugs.

Fisher was taken into custody after his arrest, but in July 2022 he successfully applied for bail.

He was released to a residential rehabilitation center where he has been treated for his drug addiction for the past 18 months.

Fisher remained largely silent during Thursday’s hearing, only admitting his guilt after each charge was read to him.

Western Australian police seized the drugs on April 20, 2022. Fisher was also charged with possession of drugs including LSD, ketamine and testosterone.

His lawyer Dermot Dann told the court he would need some time to gather psychological material, character references and evidence of Fisher’s rehabilitation.

The matter was adjourned to a pre-sentencing hearing by Judge Gerard Mullaly on April 29.

Fisher’s bail was extended until his next court hearing.

Last week, the former star accepted an offer of a maximum prison sentence of five years and four months, with a minimum of three years if he pleaded guilty.

The 41-year-old played 228 games for St Kilda, including back-to-back grand finals in 2009 and 2010, before retiring from the AFL in 2016.
