Former AFL star Jack Ziebell has undergone surgery to address the facial injuries he sustained when he was reportedly assaulted at a bar in Melbourne early Sunday morning.

The 32-year-old wore bandages over his broken nose and upper lip and the bruises were still visible on his face when he left Epworth Hospital in Richmond on Tuesday.

Ziebell was the alleged victim of an unprovoked attack outside The Osborne Rooftop & Bar in South Yarra just hours after playing his last AFL match at the MCG for North Melbourne.

After celebrating his 280th and final game at a club event on Saturday night, Ziebell left with a group of his Kangaroos teammates and some club staff.

He was reportedly attacked by three men, who punched him in the face and caused him to fall to the pavement before kicking him in the head.

“Officers have been informed that a 32-year-old man was assaulted in a suspected unprovoked incident outside a bar on Commercial Road around 1am on Sunday, August 20,” a Victoria Police spokesman said.

It appears the victim was pushed into the road by the perpetrator, who was accompanied by two other men, before being punched in the face and kicked as he fell to the ground.

The trio then fled the scene.

The injured man was not seriously injured.

“Police are investigating whether the attack may have followed a reported pushing and shoving fight in the venue, which resulted in the trio being removed from the venue.”

Monday has the Announce sun reported that two men from Narre Warren had reported to Prahran police station in Melbourne.

A 21-year-old was then charged with assault, causing deliberate injury and assault by kicking.

A 26-year-old was questioned but released pending further inquiries.

Ziebell made his debut for the Kangaroos in 2009 after being picked as the 9th pick in the 2008 draft.

He left the AFL on Saturday, with Richmond legends Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt also retired in the same game the Tigers won by 29 points.

“He’s been such a tough warrior for the football club,” said North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson.
