Sam Docherty could still play football this year as Carlton’s inspirational hero makes a comeback.
Blues veteran Docherty tore his anterior cruciate ligament for the third time during the first round of the 2024 season, leading many to fear his season was over.
But according to 7News, there is optimism in the Carlton camp and the defender is expected to play before the end of the year if the stars align.
According to the report, he returned to non-contact training last week as part of his recovery and could join Collingwood’s Tyson Goldsack in making a quick recovery from a knee injury.
Docherty is an inspiration to the entire football community after twice beating cancer to return to football.
He was first diagnosed in 2020 and recovered after successful treatment, but was diagnosed with cancer again nine months later.
