Footy player, 25, among two men killed in horror workplace accidents just hours apart

A 25-year-old footballer is one of two workers who died in separate industrial accidents, which occurred just hours apart.

Labourer Todd Retallack was working on the roof of machinery dealer McIntosh & Son in Katanning, 275km southeast of Perth, when he fell at about 9.40am. The Western Australian reported.

He was taken to Katanning Hospital and later airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital, where he died.

Mr Retallack was remembered by his teammates at Boxwood Hill Footy Club for his ‘cheeky smile, down-to-earth attitude and zest for life’.

“On behalf of Boxwood Hills Football Club, supporters, the community and surrounding districts, our thoughts are with his friends and the Retallack family,” said Shane Davy, chairman of Boxwood Hill Football Club.

“We are here to help you through this tragic time.”

Just hours after the Katanning accident, a truck driver was crushed to death by a motor vehicle that rolled over him while he was working underground in Narrikup, about 400km southeast of Perth.

The 45-year-old man died on the spot.
