Penrith legend and radio presenter Mark Geyer had to leave the studio in a hurry to become a grandfather for the first time. His son Logan and partner Paige welcomed a baby boy on Tuesday.

The Panthers icon ran away from the microphone during Triple M’s Mick & MG in the Morning show shortly before 7am to ensure he didn’t miss the unique event.

‘MG’ called into the show later that morning and shouted at the top of his lungs, ‘I’m a poppy!’

Geyer went on to say that the new baby boy weighed in at a whopping 7 pounds and was 20 inches long, which, incredibly, was the exact same height and weight Logan was when he was born.

“He’s a little boy,” Geyer said.

The name has not yet been determined.

“It’s a surreal feeling. After five children, it’s very emotional to have your first grandchild.”

The former NRL hardman also indicated he wants to be called ‘Papa’, but instead prefers to be called ‘Poppy Geyer’ or ‘Poppy Mark’.

“He’s just a beautiful, beautiful thing. He’s changed my life forever!”

Co-host Mick Molloy wondered if there was a chance the newcomer would ever play for the Panthers.

“I don’t know, but maybe,” Geyer laughed.

‘It’s clear that he has a good size and comes from a good background.

“Just a beautiful little thing.”

The Penrith legend (pictured celebrating the team’s 1991 Grand Final victory) has not ruled out the possibility of his grandson playing for the Panthers one day

The Panthers take on the Sharks in a make-or-break preliminary round at Accor Stadium next Saturday as Penrith chase a historic fourth consecutive finish.

Geyer’s other son, Mavrik, made his first division debut for the Panthers against the Roosters earlier this season, with the football legend admitting he had a lump in his throat when he heard the news.

‘In the beginning I didn’t do that [cry]but when I started telling other family members, it hit me. I got emotional hearing their reactions and how proud they were of him,” Geyer revealed.

“I got very emotional because I know how hard he worked for it. Not many people, other than his teammates and family, have seen what he’s done to get to this place.”

Mark made his debut for the Panthers in 1986, playing 135 games and was the star of the club’s 1991 championship title.
