  • Geyer would love to see AC/DC or The Killers perform in Sydney
  • AFL expected to confirm Katy Perry will perform at MCG in September

Football legend Mark Geyer has named five artists who he believes can add to the spectacle of the NRL Grand Final for fans this season.

It comes after the AFL has faced criticism in some quarters over rumours that pop star Katy Perry will perform at the MCG on September 28, where she will reportedly earn a $5 million fee.

The 39-year-old American sensation is known for hits such as Roar, Teenage Dream and Firework and can also be seen in the catchy commercials for Menulog.

She performed at the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup final, where she later played alongside the likes of Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry.

However, questions remain as to whether the AFL crowd would embrace her music on the biggest day of the season.

Speaking on the latest podcast episode of MG’s Rugby League OverviewPanthers champion Geyer showed his impressive knowledge of modern music bands and artists.

Geyer, 56, presented his ‘top five’ to Triple M listeners as part of a rankings segment regarding the proposed entertainment for the NRL Grand Final.

“When I was five my first choice would have been Kid Laroi,” the former NSW Blues Origin enforcer began.

“He’s so popular now, probably the biggest pop star in the world.”

Next on Geyer’s chart was Australian electronic band Peking Duk, followed by The Killers and local pop star Kylie Minogue.

He then named his favorite band to sing their classics at the Accor Stadium: the legendary rock band AC/DC.

‘Imagine if they’re in the Grand Final and then [possibly at the NRL season opener] “Next year in Vegas,” Geyer said.

“That would be the ultimate.”

Co-host Liam Flanagan agreed, with both men confident that a “$10 million” figure would see AC/DC entertain fans in Sydney in October – and Vegas in March.
