Footy legend Brendan Fevola has confirmed he is making a shock sporting return – as an MMA cage fighter.

The ex-Carlton and Brisbane striker, 42, has agreed step into the ring for Hex Fight Series, an Australian mixed martial arts showcase.

The two-time AFL Coleman Medal winner will take on a complete stranger in an MMA fight as part of Hex Fight Series 28 at Melbourne’s Festival Hall on November 18.

The footy hero, who was a controversy magnet during his footy career, knows he may have bitten off more than he can chew.

“I thought I might as well try something I haven’t done before,” Fevola said.

‘Now I wonder if I made the right decision?

“But if you want a chance to fight me, go for it… I’m training, so watch out!”

In a bizarre twist, Fevola’s opponent will be selected from a pool of registered ticket holders for the event later this month.

The fight night will also feature showdowns between welterweight contenders Jonathan Micallef and Joe Luciano and a high-stakes bantamweight clash between stars Cody Haddon and Sean Gauci.

Micallef comes into the bout on a four-fight winning streak, while Haddon hopes to cement himself as the top bantamweight on Australia’s regional circuit.

A HEX Fight Series spokesperson said Fevola’s participation would add an instant level of intrigue to the event.

“We know Fev was a master on the football pitch during his career, so we’re sure fans will be eager to see how he stacks up in the hex,” they said.
