Great AFL football commentator Nathan Brown has opened up about the bizarre way he ended up owing $18,000 in parking fines.

Brown, who currently works as a commentator for Triple M and one of the presenters of Nine’s Sunday Footy Show, revealed he recently received a disturbing phone call from a sheriff calling about a car linked to his business.

“She says you have some outstanding warrants,” Brown explained further Triple M.

‘I said because it’s part of the business when you nominate a driver, I sent that back. She said I see you sent that back… but it was too late and you did that several times and we’re going to put the clamps on your car.

“She said you’ve had other fines, not just this one, dating back to 2013.

“She gave me the obligation numbers and everything. It came to $18,000.”

Brown explained that he had paid the original fine and is now putting together a plan to pay off the remainder of the fines.

“So I got scammed. It goes back a long way and you’re just ambivalent about a lot of things and thought, I’ll get into that later. And later never comes,” he said.

Earlier this year, Brown stepped into the ring for his first professional boxing fight against fellow football commentator and Nine co-host Kane Cornes – and came up trumps.

Cornes – who appeared to be the fitter of the pair – was busier when they fought on The Gathering fight card in Adelaide just before the Gather Round, but Brown was taking the bigger shots.

After the fight, Brown was asked how it felt to shut down his controversial opponent, but he instead paid tribute to Cornes.

“It’s a good effort to get out of here,” Brown said.

‘We haven’t boxed much, but Kane’s courage to come here… The thing about Kane is that he will give it in the media, but he also accepts it.

“There are a lot of guys in the media who don’t like to give it the way he does, they’re afraid to give it. I take my hat off to him too.’

Cornes was equally classy in defeat, praising Brown’s ability.

“I’m doing well, I’m relieved it’s over,” he said. ‘It was a really challenging experience. I have really enjoyed it. My coaches were phenomenal. I never put on boxing gloves until eight weeks ago, so it’s a victory to be able to get in there and still be able to stand.

‘It’s the most nervous and anxious I’ve ever been. I have so much respect for everyone who steps into the ring, so athletic, their endurance is incredible, courage and toughness, the sport ticks all the boxes.

“I really want to give credit to my opponent, he was phenomenal. Browny, he has real power and he is an incredible athlete, brilliant football player and shit, he was a good fighter.”
