Brendan Fevola says he thought he was going to die when he fought to lose 12kg in nine days as part of his contract with weight loss company Jenny Craig.

Footy legend Fevola, 42, became a Jenny Craig ambassador in 2017 and following news that the weight-loss company has filed for bankruptcy, he’s revealed what he needed to do to meet his contractual obligations.

“I was paid a lot of money, but for the first six months I had to lose a lot of weight,” he said on Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev & Nick.

‘And then you had to stay within two kilos the following year, you were weighed every month and that was without food, you had to do it yourself.’

Fevola went on to explain the “scary” effort he made to keep his appointment, which resulted in him having to lose nearly 12 pounds in nine days.

“It got a little scary because it was approaching the big weigh-in where I was going to get the big money, so I had to make it,” he said.

‘My goal was 108 kg and I was out for nine days and I was 119.8 and I had nine days to lose it and I didn’t eat for almost seven days.

‘I went to a sauna and walked to the Brighton baths to go for a little walk, but I had no energy. It was so bad, it was the only time I thought I was going to die. My nose started bleeding for no reason and I had some soup that filled me up again.

“But there’s a great result, I woke up the morning of, I went in and weighed in, I got to 107, they all clapped and said well done.”

‘Next to the Jenny Craig, don’t lie, there’s a McDonald’s and after every weigh-in I’d go and treat myself. I went in and bought two McChickens, a Big Mac, big chips.

“I smashed the first McChicken and almost spat. But I’ve got my weight, I’ve got my money.’

Jenny Craig’s operations in Australia and New Zealand went under voluntary governance on Tuesday.

The announcement came just five days after it said it would “currently continue to operate and support our customers,” in response to last week’s confirmation that it would close its US headquarters.

A representative at the time said the decision would not affect local services, but FTI Consulting was appointed on Tuesday to lead the voluntary administration.

FTI Consulting confirmed that the team of Vaughan Strawbridge, Kate Warwick and Joseph Hansell had been appointed as volunteer trustees.

Jenny Craig Australia will continue to trade as the managers try to save the company by restructuring it.

The company was founded in Melbourne in 1983 and has grown to become a household name as one of the largest weight management companies in the world.

It has more than 500 locations in North America and approximately 600 centers worldwide.
