There are still three quarters to go, but some Sydney Swans fans fear another Grand Final flogging after an opening term to forget at the MCG.

The Cats ran to a five-goal lead in a blistering start to the game for Chris Scott’s side, who wrote the Swans into their own defensive 50 for most of the first quarter on Saturday afternoon.

The dominant manner of Geelong’s performance left Swans fans shocked, with some already writing off their chances of a comeback.

“No, this is already horrible oh god,” one concerned fan posted on Twitter.

Another said: ‘Can we put our coach on the bench at a quarter to time?’ while other fans criticized their “absolute pretenders” and begged officials to “stop the fight.”

A fan of Swan said: ‘Here’s another flogging on the map. I saw the Hawthorn beating us years ago, and it’s going on again.’

Meanwhile, Collingwood star Mason Cox shared his view, with the big man citing forward Tom Hawkins’ success in the ruck as a cause for concern for Sydney.

“The most embarrassing thing as a ruck is to be pushed under in the F50 and they kick a goal. Hawkins has done that twice now.’

John Longmire hopes a tactical change could inspire a seismic comeback, but AFL legend Gerard Healy fears the Cats have already stretched themselves beyond the Swans’ reach.

“The Cats are paying a great deposit early on,” he said via AFL Nation. “It’s a shock and awe.

“Hats off to Geelong. Their strategy, pressure, structure were all premiership class’
