- Football fans don’t like Origin coaches interviewing during the match
- Hailed as groundbreaking when introduced by Channel 9
- Supporters asked X to scrap the interviews
Football fans on social media have criticised Channel Nine’s interviews with Origin coaches Billy Slater and Michael Maguire during the match.
The free-to-air network asked both coaches for their thoughts on the first half at Suncorp Stadium in the series-deciding match.
The analysis was initially hailed as groundbreaking, but advocates expressed frustration with the move at X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
“Someone please start a petition to stop Nine interviewing the coaches during the game,” fan Brendan Crabb tweeted.
Another wrote: ‘Does anyone else hate it when they go to the coaches during the game for a comment?
A third said: ‘Mid-game interviews are completely pointless. Please stop doing them.’
In what looked set to be an Origin classic, the score was still 0-0 after half an hour of hectic play.
Queensland were clearly looking to bounce back after being outclassed in the second game at the MCG, with Queensland’s defence being bloodcurdling from the start.

Both Jeremiah Nanai and Cameron Murray were sent off from the penalty box at the end of the first half as tensions rose.
A late penalty from Valentine Holmes saw the Maroons enter the dressing rooms at Suncorp Stadium with a 2-0 lead.
Referee Ashley Klein was also spotted in deep conversation with captains Daly Cherry-Evans and Issah Yeo in an attempt to calm the unrest before both teams enjoyed a well-deserved holiday in Brisbane.
