Dwight Yorke is a football legend in the eyes of many – so when he says Daniel Arzani should be in the Socceroos roster for the World Cup in Qatar – it has a bit of influence.

Yorke, 50, has been blessed with a myriad of attacking options as the new head coach of A-League outfit Macarthur FC.

And Arzani – Australia’s x-factor at the 2018 World Cup in Russia – may be the highlight.

Ahead of the A-League finally kicking off this weekend after its longest season outside world football, Manchester United great Yorke said he will give Arzani a ‘license to play’ this season.

“He hasn’t had much playing time in recent years with injuries,” Yorke told Stan Sport.

‘But here [at Macarthur] I showed him (Arzani) that I am committed to a system, that he will get a lot of playing time and express himself and not feel like you are under pressure to perform. I just want him to be himself.

“What I’ve noticed, what I’ve seen, what I’ve worked with, the person I’m getting to know – he’s not just a funny character, he’s a great player.”

Yorke went to state Arzani, 23, ‘should be on the Australian team’ for the World Cup in November, given his ability to change the course of a match in the blink of an eye.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia at the official launch of the A-League season, Arzani said he is determined to realize his huge potential under Yorke.

‘I can’t say enough about the gaffer’ [Yorke],,he’s a legend”, said the attacking midfielder.

“He gives us freedom on the ball, he is always attacking.

‘The boys have responded well to his way of coaching, he gets the best out of us.’

Arzani was the name on many people’s lips prior to the World Cup in Russia four years ago.

Used an impact player from then Socceroos coach Bert van Marwijk, he sparkled like a raw teenager.

He was quickly loaned out to Scottish giants Celtic and it looked like he was poised to become a global star for the Hoops.

Unfortunately, his body started to fail him at the worst possible moment.

Arzani then bounced between the Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium on leases with Utrecht and Aarhus – before deciding it was time to come home.

Macarthur secured his coveted signature for the 2022/23 A-League season, and if his blistering pre-season form in the Australia Cup is any guide, it could prove invaluable.

He was a star in the cup final against Sydney United 58 at Commbank Stadium – and he knows he is an excellent opportunity to be named in Graham Arnold’s squad for the World Cup – but he is not ahead of himself.

“My body is holding up well, nothing is holding me back, which is great,” he said.

“If I play well for Macarthur, who knows what will happen. “I just want to get to work.”
