Joe Rogan was full of praise for Leon Edwards after his head-kick knockout of Kamaru Usman, but his real-time reaction was even better.

With just one minute left on the clock in Salt Lake City, Edwards’ championship shot looked over until he delivered a crushing kick to become the welterweight champion.

And Rogan, who was working as a broadcaster on the fight, could not hide his emotions after the stunning moment.

The 55-year-old extended his arms onto his fellow broadcasters Daniel Cormier and Jon Anik, while his eyes bulged wildly as he took in the gravity of the moment.

After the fight, Rogan was full of praise for Edwards and put the moment in perspective.

‘Nothing compares. It’s the greatest head-kick knockout in the history of the sport – with the most consequences, the most at stake, the most doubt, the most people counting him out, including us,’ he said.

‘I mean, it’s flawless – flawless technique. … The way he set it up with that left, Kamaru leaned to the right – perfect head kick, out cold.’

The fight looked to be over before Edwards’ knockout, as Usman had won the second, third and fourth rounds.

In the fifth round however, Edwards delivered the winning blow, leaving Rogan and other viewers shocked.

‘It was like a movie,’ he said.

‘We were counting him out. We were thinking he was going to lose a decision. Kamaru Usman was dominating. He was controlling the rounds.’

The result snapped Usman’s 15-fight UFC winning streak, and took away the welterweight belt he had held since March 2019.
