New images have revealed that Manchester City were denied a late penalty against RB Leipzig after the ball struck defender Benjamin Henrichs in the shoulder rather than the hand.
City players appealed to the referee in the dying seconds of the Champions League first leg, which ended 1-1 in Leipzig.
Pep Guardiola’s team was convinced that Henrichs had pushed the ball with his hands into the penalty area.
The arbitrator rejected the appeals, which initially caused the astonishment of the BT Sport experts.
Former Premier League referee Peter Walton claimed the appeal was not reviewed by VAR, adding that the initial angle of the incident appeared to indicate a handball offence.

UEFA later provided footage from a new angle, showing the ball hitting Henrichs in the shoulder.
BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand acknowledged that the footage had cleared up the controversy, but questioned the length of time it took to provide the angle.
‘It seems so [comes of his shoulder]’, said Rio Ferdinand on BT Sport.
‘It’s still not a perfect angle.
“Thanks to UEFA for clearing that up two years late.”
City had led the tie with Riyad Mahrez opening the scoring in the first half, before Josko Gvardiol equalized for the hosts with a towering header after half-time.
