An unassuming kiosk in Sydney’s western suburbs serves up the ‘best’ steak sandwich that’s been 35 years in the making.
Pauly Davelis, of Pauly’s Deli in the Greenway complex in Wetherill Park, is the proud son of Greek parents who ran a takeaway shop near Mount Druitt for more than 30 years.
In his smart kiosk, bathed in neon blue lights, he serves sandwiches ‘with a touch of spicy jokes’ that foodies come from far and wide to get their hands on them.
His OG steak sandwich ($26) was one of the first things his dad taught him when he was on the grill, he told Good Food.
It’s a no-nonsense white bread slice, slathered with barbecue sauce and stuffed with grilled Scottish fillet, balanced by a generous punch of shredded fresh lettuce, beetroot, tomato, cheese and caramelised onion.

It’s been dubbed the ‘best’ steak sanga in all of Australia and is a firm favorite on the menu. It proves that classic food, done right, never goes out of style.
“Omg yum, we’re coming today,” one person said after seeing a photo of the famous OG
Customers also rave about Pauly’s GOAT sandwich ($22), featuring panko-crusted chicken schnitzel and cheese that melts in Pauly’s rich, specialty house-made mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato and plain white toast.

The Stallion sub-style sandwich ($22) also has a devoted fan base.
The sub is an intensely satisfying option with plenty of prosciutto, ham, salami and soft folds of provolone paired with grilled peppers, a heady olive tapenade, sun-dried tomato and pesto on a toasted sub bun.
One customer said these “sensational little deli-style sandwiches… will knock your socks off.”

The Bulk King: two grilled Cevapi sausage patties, cabbage, Spanish onions and a generous amount of vibrant ajvar
“Lettuce cut like this is also perfect, I feel like everything is well thought out, great to see and taste,” said another.
Although one customer complained that their sandwich was a bit salty, another reviewer said they would “100 percent be back.”
Pauly’s menu includes huge breakfast sandwiches, salads, sweets and coffee and iced tea sweetened with syrup.
The wild mushroom sourdough sandwich with scrambled eggs and homemade hollandaise is also a favorite.
And the divine galaktobouriko (Greek custard tart), a dreamy rice pudding, chilled Greek-style frappe and a vibrant Vietnamese coffee also do their part to set this kiosk apart.
The atmosphere is chatty, fast and friendly and customers love that sandwiches are made to order.
One reviewer who had to share his huge sandwich with his father said his hard-to-impress dad is now a Pauly’s convert too.
Pauly’s Deli is located at Kiosk 5/1187 The Horsley Drive, Wetherill Park.
It is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 2.30pm, Saturday from 8am to 3pm and Sunday from 9am to 3pm.
