Food researcher reveals why you should never order chicken, steak or sushi at restaurants

From low quality dishes to unseasoned sauce or uncooked meals that can make you sick, there’s nothing more disappointing than a bad meal out.

But according to one food researcher, the difference between a good meal and a bad one may all be down to what you order.

Speaking to FEMAIL, Marcus Arcabascio, founder of Menu-Price, a website that aggregates prices and menus from restaurants around the world, revealed what you should always avoid when ordering from a restaurant you don’t know.

He revealed that why dishes like macaroni and cheese and chicken should not be ordered, and that fresh foods should always be sought instead…

Macaroni and cheese

Restaurants can also use too much processed cheese, resulting in a less flavorful, gooey dish than you hope.

What to order?

Always look for the freshest ingredients, such as seasonal vegetables or a fresh catch of the day.

In addition, customers can consider a specialty of the house.

Since it’s a meal the restaurant is known for, chances are it will be a tasty option, says Marcus.

“If you want macaroni and cheese, you better come home,” he says.

“Remember, if you order it at a restaurant, you run the risk of toppings like breadcrumbs or veggies that you might not like on your macaroni and cheese.”

Chicken

“Chicken is universally loved, but it’s a dish that can easily go wrong,” Marcus added.

He believes this should be avoided as chicken can become overcooked, dry and less tasty if not cooked properly. It requires careful handling and thorough cooking to avoid the risk of foodborne illnesses such as Salmonella or Campylobacter.

Scrambled eggs

Scrambled eggs are a breakfast classic, but they’re not all created equal.

“Scrambled eggs may seem like a safe bet, but they can be left on hotplates for too long, compromising their quality,” says Marcus.

Over time, this can result in less fluffy, drier eggs. Also, the eggs used are not always the freshest, which affects the overall taste.

Brownies

This sweet treat is delicious, but according to Marcus, restaurant brownies are often not made in house.

Instead, they can be bought ready-made, which means they lack freshness and aren’t as unique as other desserts on the menu.

Steak

Steak can be risky unless you’re dining at an upscale restaurant, claims Marcus.

The quality of steaks varies greatly, and a lower quality cut may not meet your expectations.

On the flip side, however, ordering a well-done steak can result in a tougher, less enjoyable meal.

Sushi

Sushi is a delicacy that showcases the beauty of raw ingredients, but the art of making sushi requires precision and fresh ingredients.

“In establishments that do not specialize in sushi, raw fish may not be handled or stored properly, leading to potential health risks such as parasitic infections.

“In addition, the taste and texture can be affected,” Marcus added.
